Praying the Scriptures For Your Children

We named our third daughter an unusual name, much beloved from a family friend. That sweet friend recently sent me a book that has been wonderful food for thought. The book is Praying the Scriptures for Your Children, and was written by Jodie Berndt.
I have been contemplating regeneration lately. You know, it isn't our work, it's squarely Christ's. We were dead in our trespasses (Ephesians 2) but He breathed life into our lifelessness and He will do the same for our children if they are His.
Jodie writes:
How can you pray the Scriptures for your children? Ask God to give them a heart for Him, then pray that all of his promises will wash over their lives. Underline, write their names in the margin, and believe that He will do everything He set out to do in their lives and yours.
Praying the Scriptures isn't a method or religious activity that we put our hope in, thinking that it will please God and then He must bless us in return. Praying the Scriptures is a beautiful gift to your children, because it means that you are reading God's words for them - for you - and He is growing His heart for them in you.
